Managing Director of BEET Language Centre and ITTC recently supplied the IEF with a review of how his institutions had fared in 2013:
“The year has been a bit of a rollercoaster for us, as was last year with two ISI inspections. The second was overseen by an ISI/Ofsted Monitor, which served to satisfy both the ISI and us that there had been no misjudgements by the inspectors. The result was Exceeds Expectations (the Ofsted equivalent to Outstanding) in all categories. And we were not the only school in Bournemouth to achieve this.”
“This year we had an ISI Monitoring Visit and a full British Council inspection. The ISI confirmed our grades from last year, and the British Council under the new and stricter inspection criteria awarded us a total of 14 Strengths (old Points of Excellence) out of a possible 15. This placed us joint first in the UK with Lake School in Oxford. A very welcome surprise after years of slogging!”
“However, the big surprise this year was being winner of the ‘Contribution to International Education and Conference Business Experience of the Year’ category in the Bournemouth Tourism Awards. We put in a very late entry, on the off-chance that we might get a ‘mentioned in despatches’, based on our expansion of teacher training and having had a fairly good year otherwise. But the truth is we did very little more this year than we do any year.”
“The BTMB now have a real opportunity to assess quality, which is in itself a significant contribution to our international reputation as a town, by looking through the published reports of both the ISI and the British Council.”
Congratulations to BEET Language Centre on an excellent year in 2013!
